A Scots woman left paralysed after a horror crash when she was just 16 has backed a new campaign to deter speeding. Laura Torrance was rushed to hospital, suffering from a broken back and internal injuries, after going for a drive with five pals after school in East Kilbride.
Laura, now 41, said: "The driver had just passed his test by a matter of days and I had been warned not to get into his car but I was young and fearless. I really struggled for a long time to get over what happened to me and forgive him. "He didn't come to visit me in the full six months I was in hospital but once I got out he reached out and asked to come and see me so we sort of worked it out for a while. However, over the course of the next couple of years he started to wallow in it all and kept talking about the impact it had on him and how much he was suffering.
After a six month stay in hospital Laura was eventually allowed to go home but says she felt like she was a "baby again" as she had to learn how to sit up, balance herself and move on and off chairs. While it was exciting to get home from hospital, Laura admitted she was scared about her future and being able to fulfill the ambitions she had before the accident.
