Former Everton academy prospect and Liverpool fan Anthony Barry will help filll in for Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel against Manchester United in the Champions League
Thomas Tuchel will be serving a touchline ban in Bayern Munich’s Champions League opener with Manchester United, meaning there will be a new face in the dugout.
His playing career saw the scouser play for Yeovil Town at Wembley in the League One play-off final; complete a controversial and short-lived move from Chester City to Wrexham; and play alongside Jamie Vardy at Fleetwood Town. However, by his own admission, Barry discovered his true passion was coaching.
This all led Lampard to bring him to Chelsea, where he would eventually go on to win the Champions League as part of Tuchel’s backroom staff. He remained at Stamford Bridge under Graham Potter but was one of Tuchel’s first ‘signings’ when he was appointed Bayern boss in April Speaking about his decision to add Barry to his Belgium coaching staff, Martinez previously said: “I came across Anthony Barry when he was at Wigan Athletic and he was a very impressive young coach at that point. I’ve followed him for a long time, then he moved to Chelsea and won the Champions League.”
