We know how hard times are. We’ve seen the polls showing that worries about the economy are the top issue for voters as they head to the polls. We think a column like Sean’s is a public service, to help people battle ever-rising prices

He points out the many variables that determine whether SodaStream is a cost saver and winds up the piece by noting the huge advantage to the environment of carbonating your beverages at home.that was available at Giant Eagle on the Flashfood app, where grocery chains sell food close to its “sell by” date at a discount. The program helps avoid sending food to a landfill while giving people cheap dining options.
Sean claimed one of the boxes of produce on the app and took home a container a bit larger than a shoe box, loaded with veggies. He had six bell peppers, sweet potatoes, basil, mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, tomatillos and cherry tomatoes. He looked up prices if he bought them in the produce aisle: $29.75.
Sean discussed in the column how he made use of all that food, becoming a more creative cook as he found ways to include the produce. It was fun to read, and I have little doubt that some of the people who read that column decided to buy their own mystery boxes. That is the aim of the column. .. But if you can save nearly $25 on produce with each trip the grocery store because you read a single installment of Saving You Money, then subscribing to our platforms actually saves you money. Hence the title of Sean’s column.
I’ve enjoyed seeing Sean settle into his role and look forward to where else he cuts spending. I should note that his editor on these columns is Rich Exner, who was our consumer columnist before we promoted him to editor. Anyone who knows Rich knows how hard he works to get value for his dollars. With Sean and Rich working together, I feel certain we will all find huge savings in future installments of Sean’s column.
