He had last been seen late Sunday, when he jumped from the bridge with his older brother.
A fisherman near Martha’s Vineyard on Thursday found a dead person whom police believe to be a man whoMassachusetts State Police had been looking for 21-year-old Tavaughn Bulgin, who jumped into the water near Edgartown late Sunday night. His 26-year-old brother, Tavaris, jumped from the bridge at the same time, and his body was found before sunrise Monday.
The bridge — officially the American Legion Memorial Bridge — connects Edgartown with Oak Bluffs on the island south of Cape Cod. It is a popular tourist destination because of its appearance in the 1975 shark film. In a statement Thursday, state police said: “At approximately 11:30 a.m. today, a shell fisherman located the deceased body of a young adult male on the western edge of Sengekontacket Pond. The body matches the description of Tavaughn Bulgin.”GoFundMe pageJumping off the bridge is not allowed, but kids growing up on the island and tourists have done so for decades. The roadway is about 15 feet above the water, depending on the tide, and the current pulls swimmers toward the ocean.
Sengekontacket Pond is the coastal pond west of the bridge and the barrier beach. Most bridge jumpers face the other way.
