As Texans lose top spot, a look at Houston teams' No. 2 picks
Quite well. Tomjanovich was the final first-round pick of the San Diego Rockets before they moved to Houston. He became a star after the move, becoming a five-time NBA All-Star. His career trajectory was tragically altered after serious facial injuries suffered after being violently punched by the Lakers' Kermit Washington during the 1977-78 season.
Tomjanovich came back and was an All-Star the following season and retired after the 1980-81 campaign. His second act with the Rockets was even more successful, as he reluctantly took over as head coach in 1992 and lead the team to its only two NBA championships in 1994 and 1995. Tomjanovich, who also coached Team USA to an Olympic goal medal in 2000, finally got his long-overdue Hall of Fame induction in 2020.
