'You have the authority, under the Postal Reorganization Act, to remove the Postmaster General,’ the senators argued in a letter.

“requiring that carriers leave mail ‘behind or on the workroom floor or docks’” – as slowing down delivery times, threatening the election and having “no valid explanation.”

Noting that the Board oversees DeJoy and “directs the exercise of the powers of the Postal Service” the senators called on them to revoke DeJoy’s powers, reverse changes that have “harmed service,” and, if DeJoy refuses to cooperate, remove him by a majority vote. The Board is made up of 6 members, all of whom were appointed by Trump, and has just two Democratic governors compared to four Republicans, making the senators’ appeal unlikely to come to fruition. The letter is signed by a fairly broad ideological coalition, including several senators who ran against each other for president in 2020. In addition to Schumer and Warren, progressive Sens. Bernie Sanders and Ron Wyden also signed, as did moderate Sens. Amy Klobuchar , Tina Smith and Gary Peters .
