🔴 Hospital consultants in England have voted to strike over pay
The union had already said a 48-hour walkout on 20 and 21 July would go ahead if the doctors agreed to the action.
Consultants will be providing a service describes as “Christmas Day cover” during their 48 hour strike, prioritising emergency care. This is partly because income tax thresholds have been frozen, and an additional 45% tax rate for the highest earners has been introduced. “Consultants don’t want to have to take industrial action, but have been left with no option in the face of a government that continues to cut our pay year after year,” he said, adding the government should rethink their offers and come back with something better.
