EXCLUSIVE: Cross party support for the move is growing after Sir Alex Ferguson backed the campaign.

Senior MPs have backed a campaign calling for dementia in retired footballers to be classed as an industrial injury.

Labour MSP Michael Marra has spearheaded a campaign for Holyrood to use its devolved social security powers to class the damage done as an industrial injury. “The evidence so far demonstrates a link, and like others, I believe we need to recognise that this is an industrial injury, and ensure that access to Industrial Injury Benefit is provided.

“It is important that both parliaments engage with the issue and I am heartened to see the cross party support for action here. Marra’s campaign received a massive boost when dozens of retired professionals signed an open letter calling for the Scottish Government to act.
