“Wanted: The Escape of Carlos Ghosn” es la historia real de cómo el ejecutivo automotriz pasó de desfilar por alfombras rojas como director de Nissan y Renault a huir a Líbano con la ayuda de un exmilitar estadounidense.
Pero lo más destacado es que el director del documental, James Jones, fue al Líbano y se sentó con Ghosn y su esposa, Carole, frente a la cámara. Jones tenía aprobado el proyecto antes de tener acceso a la pareja y sabía que debía hacerlos participar. “Mi reacción inicial fue: ‘¿Hay suficiente para cuatro partes?’ Sé que es un tipo interesante y un hombre de negocios brillante, y el escape es emocionante”, dijo Jones. “Luego, cuando pasé el tiempo leyendo sobre la historia, me pareció vasta y sentí que era el tipo de cosas que realmente satisfacen cuando te adentras en ellas”.
El caso contra Ghosn se centra en los elaborados cálculos para compensarlo para su jubilación luego de un recorte salarial que aceptó a partir de 2009, cuando la divulgación de los grandes salarios de los directores ejecutivos se convirtió en un requisito legal en Japón. Puede que Ghosn haya escapado, pero no pasó lo mismo con quienes se lo facilitaron. Taylor fue condenado a dos años de prisión, mientras que su hijo, Peter, fue sentenciado a un año y ocho meses. En la serie afirman que Ghosn nunca les pagó por ayudarlo a escapar.
