Glasgow East Women's Aid closed on March 1 after announcing it would be put into administration following claims it suspended 13 workers for whistleblowing about alleged bullying.

A watchdog has raised 'serious and significant' concerns around the running of a Women's Aid organisation which closed following allegations of bullying and strikes.

We understand this is a difficult and distressing time for those receiving support and for staff at the service."Because of our concerns we have issued an Improvement Notice to the service. This sets out the significant improvements that must be made, swiftly, so that the support experienced is of a standard they have a right to expect.

They had previously said that its Women's Aid members received no warning prior to closing down and added that "confusion reigns" as they seek "urgent clarity" from public bodies. Adding that no notification or consultation was afforded to the workers, and Unite first heard that Glasgow East Women’s Aid had been placed into administration through media sources.

"It was only through legal action did we force Glasgow East Women's Aid into reinstating five dismissed workers. It's a very murky story which is emerging and one which so far has no clear answers as to why the organisation was placed into administration. All we know at this stage is that it no longer had the funds to sustain its operations.
