Seven hour Lake District rescue after climber falls with air ambulance unable to land
Volunteer mountain rescue teams braved low visibility and difficult ground to rescue an injured walker and take them to a helicopter.
A near seven hour rescue operation followed which involved misty conditions preventing a Great North Air Ambulance Service helicopter from being able to land. As such, a Coastguard helicopter was sent to help instead.The callout, which was the 95th of the year for Wasdale MRT, occurred at around 2pm on July 5. Duddon and Furness MRT were requested to help so that enough people were there for the difficult stretcher carry.
