are in agreement on an enormous 13-year, $350 million contract, according to multiple reports.
Correa, a 28-year-old long considered one of the best infielders in the game, was by far the best free agent remaining after last week's frenzy at the winter meetings in San Diego. The Giants were not shy about telegraphing their desire for slugger Aaron Judge,at the last minute despite a reported nine-year, $360 million offer from the Giants.
Now they've committed nearly the same amount of money — albeit over more years for competitive balance tax purposes — to Correa. That's not necessarily a bad thing; Correa is two years younger than Judge and plays a premium defensive position. The huge dollars, double the amount of any other Giants deal ever, reflects the degree to which the Giants absolutely had to have Correa. Judge stayed in New York, Trea Turner wanted to be on the East Coast all along, the Padres paid out the nose for Xander Bogaerts and, critically, Farhan Zaidi's front office seems strictly opposed to giving pitchers big contracts.
