LaMonte Wade Jr. could rejoin the Giants for their series with the Dodgers, while Evan Longoria and Tommy La Stella are set to begin rehab assignments this week.

SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants lineup is so hobbled that a man who was in Tampa 48 hours ago manned first base and batted fifth in San Francisco’s order Sunday. Darin Ruf, no defensive maven, was tasked with covering the nooks and crannies of Oracle Park’s unique right field.LaMonte Wade Jr., who played nine innings Saturday night for the first time on his rehab assignment, could rejoin the Giants for their two-game series in Los Angeles, Kapler said.

Mike Yastrzemski, the first of five Giants players to test positive for COVID-19, flew back to San Francisco and is quarantining inside a hotel near the ballpark, but neither he nor any other Giants on the COVID IL has recorded a negative test yet.

Down their Opening Day first baseman and entire starting outfield, the Giants shifted Ruf into right field for the first time this season and started Luis Gonzalez in center and Jason Krizan in left field. Newly acquired Mike Ford filled in at first base, a little over 24 hours after he touched down in San Francisco as the Giants’ latest reinforcement via waiver wire.
