Starting Monday, San Francisco will roll out a first-of-its-kind state-funded program that could get severely mentally ill people off the streets and into mandated treatment.
To be eligible for the services, people must be deemed unlikely to survive without supervision or as a threat to themselves without support. They will be required to attend regular hearings to ensure they’re following the treatment plan. San Francisco is in desperate need of more mental health treatment options. During the last several years, The City has added more than 350 new treatment beds to the 2,200 existing beds, with another 50 in the pipeline. On average, 87% of those are in use by those needing drug withdrawal management, mental health crisis stabilization, intensive mental health and substance use disorder treatment and long-term residential care.
SFUSD will leverage community on fiscal decision-making The district is seeking applicants for a new committee to weigh in on program expansions and consolidations, staffing models and school closures
