Craig Edward, who was WDC’s convenor of housing and communities until his arrest in September 2022, last month pled guilty at Dumbarton Sheriff Court to three charges covering a six year period between March 2016 and September 2022.
He admitted, on various occasions, taking or permitting to be taken, or making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children at an address.
Despite his conviction last month, Edward only resigned last week after coming under pressure from his former Labour colleagues - who were about to call for him to be removed from office. Speaking prior to Edward’s resignation, the Leven member commented: “He has not done the decent thing and stepped down from his position and has continued to attend council meetings online and contact officers and members of the public.
“Edward has betrayed the trust of individuals, community groups, and his constituents. He has had plenty of time to do the only decent thing and step down from his role but he has continued to show his contempt for the people of West Dunbartonshire by holding on to his position despite his guilty plea.
