Pennsylvania's Gov. Josh Shapiro, the state’s first Generation X governor, and the youngest person to hold the office since 1978, will look to this new commission to recommend policies and legislation to ensure the next generation's voice is heard. He also reestablished advisory commission representing other segments of the state's population.
Gov. Josh Shapiro signed an executive order on Tuesday establishing the Commission on Next Generation Engagement to recognize the contributions of Pennsylvanians between the ages of 16 and 26 as well as re-established other advisory commissions representing various communities. Shapiro also re-established five governor’s advisory commissions that represent various communities in the commonwealth – Black, Asian American and Pacific Islanders, Latinos, LGBTQ and women. These advisory commission’s role is to make recommendations to the governor on policy and legislation and help ensure the communities they represent have a say in state government.
Razin Karu, born and raised in India and living the United States since 2013, will head the Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islander Affairs. He most recently served as executive director of the Muslim Society of Delaware Valley.
