'Shazam' success shows that DC Films may be finally on an even playing field with the MCU

We’ll see how that score holds up between now and Thursday night, but the movie is good enough that I don’t expect the “Tomatometer” score to budge. Even if you don’t love it, it works as rock-solid popcorn entertainment.movie tomorrow, it signals that DC Films may be finally on an even playing field with the MCU. No, I’m not expecting, but we’re talking about a movie that came from the New Line division and cost just $90 million to produce.

Both in film and television, the DC Comics brand is thriving without Batman. To the extent that the DC Films franchise is strong , it’s because of the popular, well-liked crowd-pleasing and successful solo movies centered around Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam. DC Films franchise has begun to make its case that its solo superhero movies are damn good. Heck, I’m not a fan of Zack Snyder’s, but it has its champions and it’s not a poorly made movie.

They are producing well-liked and enjoyable solo superhero flicks which are turning B-level superheroes into A-level movie stars. Sure, Patty Jenkins’was arguably only a “risk” because of the lack of comparable big-budget solo female superhero flicks, but it was still considered less of a sure thing compared toto James Wan and then got the hell out of his way.

Even if the plots were wonky or the action was weak , the characters and actors onboard delivered every single time. Like
