UPDATED | Funeral arrangements are now confirmed for Jacksonville University freshman Stephanie Davis following Sunday's crash involving members of JU's women's soccer team.
“News that a promising young life has been cut short is heartbreaking to hear, Jacksonville University President Tim Cost said."Stephanie was a bright, talented young woman who was dearly loved by her teammates, coaches and professors here at Jacksonville University. As a university, we are focused on supporting her family and everyone who knew Stephanie, as we collectively mourn her loss.” “Stephanie was a fantastic girl, well-mannered, hardworking and fun to be around," he said.
JU athletic director Alex Ricker-Gilbert said Davis made an impact in the relatively short time she was a student-athlete. "Stephanie’s journey at JU had only just begun, but she will be dearly missed by her family, teammates, classmates and everyone else who had the pleasure of knowing her on campus," he said.
The University of North Florida issued a statement in sympathy to the JU community and Davis' family and friends. "North Florida women's soccer and the entire Osprey community mourn the tragic passing of Stephanie Davis," according to the statement, which was posted on the UNF women's soccer Twitter feed."We express our sincerest condolences to Stephanie's friends, family, teammates, coaches and all that came to know her at Jacksonville University and beyond."
