Steve Clarke's side turned in a toothless performance as they fell to a 1-0 defeat with Germany just around the corner.
Scotland’s hopes of a pre-Euros pick-me-up were dealt a savage blow by Northern Ireland on a hellish night for Steve Clarke’s troops at Hampden.
Che Adams and Lawrence Shankland were thrown on after the break with the latter seeing a net-bound shot blocked moments after entering the fray. Fellow sub Lewis Ferguson then forced Peacock-Farrell to tip his header over the bar in injury time before Shankland lifted a header over the out of position keeper but also over the bar.
The boos that rang round at half-time alongside the renditions of ‘Scotland get battered everywhere they go’ from the visiting fans was not the mood music Clarke was hoping for as Scotland made it seven games without a win at home to a side ranked 45 places below. The loss of Andy Robertson obviously deprived Clarke of one of the main creators but with Ryan Christie, Scott McTominay, John McGinn and Billy Gilmour in behind the strikers there was a worrying lack of penetration of the deep lying green and white wall. And when we were hoping to be closer to knowing who our first choice striker is for Germany the last week has only served to deepen the dilemma.
