One Facebook user said: 'I just won't pay this for Bisto out of principle.'
And another added:"When will people stop buying it? I buy store own veg gravy delicious, and kids love it too!"
One felt 'sceptical' to stop buying the brand but had switched to Aldi's own and now 'won't go back to Bisto!' Sainsbury's was the only other supermarket selling the same product for a higher price – £4.85, with others offering gravy for prices of between £3 and £5.50.A Grocer Magazine study showed that around 50 Bisto gravy SKUs have risen up to 50.9 per cent in Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Asda since the start of the year.
A spokesperson for Bisto owner Premier Foods said:"We only ever increase our prices as a last resort, offsetting significant increases in the cost of raw materials, energy, packaging and labour wherever we can through internal cost-saving measures first. Our most popular 190g Bisto gravy tub is available at £2."
