Helicopters have been flown from their base to the ship off the Wexford coast
Ireland's Naval Service opened fire as the elite Army Ranger Wing was deployed to storm a ship as part of an ongoing £120million anti-drugs operation, it has emerged.
The highly trained soldiers were transported to the ship on two AW139 helicopters from the Air Corps earlier today. The Ranger Wing is being deployed as they are specially trained in boarding ships – and also in search techniques. Gardai also declined to comment – but it is understood there is still a major operation underway since a trawler got into difficulties off the Wexford coast on Sunday evening.
