A retired vet who turned her hand to storytelling after a lifetime of caring for poorly animals has honed her craft with the help of a Shropshire writing group, and her first book is available to buy now.

Author Jessica Keane, right, with illustrator Sue Richards

"I have two granddaughters who are now 10 and seven years old. They loved the stories and kept pestering me for more. "I have chosen a black kitten as my hero as black cats often struggle more to find forever homes," says Jessica. "I am lucky to be a member of the Much Wenlock U3A writing group ‘Writers on the Edge’. The other writers in the group have helped me become a better writer and I made some good friends.

But she has relished the exciting, new challenge and says she is grateful for all the support she has received along the way. She has always drawn since she was a child and will carry a sketch book when she travels to record her journeys.
