Sierra Canyon has won eight of its last nine games after starting 1-3, thanks to the leadership of senior Cameron Brandt.

“If you would’ve told me we’d be Mission League champions and playing for a CIF championship after we lost to Mission Viejo , I wouldn’t have believed you,” Brandt said with an honest smile. “We weren’t clicking or firing as a unit.” “I felt like it was a huge let down for everyone behind us and those that came before us,” Brandt said of the team’s low point in early September. “It wasn’t Sierra Canyon football, and I didn’t want that to be how I left my senior year. I didn’t want that to stain my senior year.”Brandt, a Stanford commit with a 4.1 grade-point average, said his role on the team changed. Especially when realizing how young the team is on defense. Only two of the 12 top tacklers on the team are seniors.
Junior lineman Carnell Fergusson has reaped the benefits, tallying a team-high 8.5 sacks this season. Senior linebacker Xavier White has 6.5 sacks and 123 tackles. Carmel Crunk has 124 tackles. Brandt’s physical play upfront has anchored a Sierra Canyon defense that’s not allowed more than 23 points all postseason.
