Don Williams, the last-surviving member of the singing Williams Brothers Quartet – and crooner Andy Williams’ brother – has died aged 100.
Don Williams, the last-surviving member of the singing Williams Brothers Quartet – andWilliams found fame alongside his siblings in the popular musical group, performing on the radio and in movies alongside the likes ofThe second-eldest of the foursome, comprised of Don, Andy and their brothers Dick and Bob, died at his Bransome, Missouri home on Friday of natural causes.Born in Iowa on October 9, 1922, Williams was just a teenager when the brothers formed their quartet in the mid-1930s.
They graduated from local radio to backing up singing legend Crosby on his iconic 1944 song Swinging on a Star and nabbing a contract with MGM Studios in 1943 after moving out to LA. Williams performed with his brothers in the studio choir for musicals including Anchors Aweigh, Ziegfeld Follies and The Harvey Girls , which starred the likes of Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and Dame Angela Lansbury.
