The homeware brand could be saved by a number of plans
After it was announced that 52 Wilko stores will be facing imminent closure next week, there are six Leeds Wilko stores which are not on the closure list.
Among the 52 stores set to close, only one is in Leeds. The Morley store will close on Tuesday, September 12. The other stores closing in Yorkshire include, the one in Kirkgate on Tuesday, September 12, and Crackenedge Ln, Dewsbury, and New St, Huddersfield on Thursday, September 14.In a deal worth £13million, B&M announced yesterday is to buy up to 51 stores. However, B&M has not confirmed which Wilko shops it has bought, or if it will save any jobs.
The updates this week mean the future of around 300 Wilko stores remains uncertain. GMB Union said PwC is still working with a bidder “who has made an offer for a significant part of business”. It added: “Whilst there remains a possibility that this fails to deliver, we are working extremely hard and doing everything we can to help it over the line.”
