Buzz Williams and Texas A&M finished one win shy of a NIT title, just as they did one win shy of an automatic NCAA Tournament berth.Texas A&M learned a valuable lesson this season: Don’t lose eight straight games in the middle of league play if you want to make the NCAA Tournament.
“It’s something I’ll probably remember for a long time, probably until I pass away, because I’ve never been through or seen anything happen like this in my life,” A&M senior guard Quenton Jackson said. Coleman of course would like to think of the eight straight losses as a “little slump,” but unfortunately for the Aggies it became a talking point of the NCAA’s selection committee when trying to peg the last few at-large entrants of the 68 total.
“You can almost say in all of those games in March we were just fighting in hopes that we could have one more game,” Williams said. “… We did that 10 times prior to tonight.”
