Our man Michael Gannon is in America with the champions and reckons Premiership rivals should be shaking.

It might still be pre-season but Brendan Rodgers is excited by what he is seeing with his Celtic squad, reports Michael Gannon from America. And that means the rest of Scottish football should perhaps be worried.

Rodgers rolled out most of his main men against the young City side the other night in Chapel Hill. Guardiola had Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish, but the rest of the team was made up of hot prospects. But that doesn’t mean Celts shouldn’t take encouragement from the display. Far from it. The Hoops were quick and slick, it was high-pressing, high intensity and everything Rodgers always demands from his sides.

And that’s where the rest should worry. Rodgers wants more. More from his players and more from the people upstairs whose job it is to get deals over the line. Celtic will add four or five new faces – and that could be enough to leave rivals Rangers needing binoculars to see where their old pals are heading. There’s also some current players who are looking like new signings.

Rodgers said: “Clearly there’s an adaption and it’s confidence. We brought him in because he fits the profile with how we play with his speed and dynamism. He can gain confidence from the other night because they were two wonderful goals, great finishes, with the first one on his right foot, the second he chops back in and finishes. He’s doing very well. It’s never easy when you come to such a big club like Celtic with the expectation, coming into a new city, that can take a little bit of time.

Rodgers said: “I just think it’s his experience. He’s obviously well known to the squad and he has that stature, that presence. But I brought him here because I know his characteristics. He’s so competitive. He’s very brave and I know the humility he has. That fits well, not just into this team, but also the culture of this club. We saw two of the signature Kasper Schmeichel saves. He’s only going to get better as he gets more accustomed to his teammates.
