Drew Pavlou has vowed to never pay fines he received over a protest sign criticising Beijing, saying he will challenge them in a higher court.

Magistrate Michael Holohan ruled that Mr Pavlou's sign constituted political advertising, which Mr Pavlou had not sought a permit for. Mr Pavlou's lawyer, Anthony Morris, KC, told the court that Mr Pavlou was merely protesting the "horrific" human rights violations committed by the Chinese Communist Party."He is obviously a very dedicated, committed and zealous campaigner for the principle in which he believes, one that does not involve seeking personal profit," Mr Morris said.
"I find that Brisbane City Council under their local law is not attempting to restrict human rights or freedom of expression," Magistrate Holohan said.
