Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley (R) said Wednesday she would accept election results if she were beaten by longtime Senator Patty Murray (D).

“Of course, if I lose the election, yes, I would accept that,” Smiley told KIRO Newsradio after being pressed by reporter Sam Campbell.

Smiley has been locked in a contentious race with Murray. Most polls show Murray ahead, but with Smiley gaining ground. She was in Covington, Wash., while Vice President Kamala Harris was visiting Seattle. “All and all, vice president Kamala Harris has failed us. She has failed her children,” Smiley said. “She’s failed Washington state, and Senator Patty Murray has gone along and made it worse.”“In Washington state, it is easier for a child to find fentanyl than it is for a parent to get baby formula.”

Harris was in town to fundraise with Murray and to announce federal funds for electric school buses across the country. Smiley said that Murray had 30 years in Washington, D.C. to help fix problems like crime and inflation. Instead, Smiley said those issues have only gotten worse.KIRO Newsradio’s Sam Campbell contributed to this report.
