EXCLUSIVE: A trade union said Christine Grahame's comments were 'astonishing', while an MSP said she should bring a packed lunch.
A well-off MSP has moaned about the quality of Holyrood’s subsidised meals at a time of rising food prices and hunger.
It was revealed in 2022 that Holyrood bosses were spending £75,000 a month subsidising food throughout the building. In an email to colleagues, leaked to the Record, the SNP MSP wrote: “I have shared my concerns about the standard/quality of meals in the GL especially lunch time meals. I would be happy to have your views, and anonymously convey these at the next SCPB meeting.
Her second email was sent on the day protestors sprayed paint across the front of the Parliament to complain about rising food insecurity. “Her ill-advised comments are also an insult to staff. If the cut price meals at Holyrood are not to Christine’s taste, she can always bring a packed lunch.” Yesterday’s lunch options in the Holyrood canteen included steak pie with potatoes and vegetables at £6.40, or roast chicken plus extra for around a fiver.A “meal deal” comprising a deli roll, a bottle of orange juice and crisps or fruit costs £5.20.
