Senior outfielder Isabella Vidal and freshman shortstop Izzy Estrada also homered for the Hornets , who pounded out 11 hits against three O’Connor pitchers, including starter Tivoli Martinez. “We attacked early,” Welham said. “We took charge from the beginning, and I think that was the difference maker. , we were kind of sitting back and we waited a little bit too long. Today, we came out that first inning and we were ready to go.”
Valdez said she and her teammates knew how important it was for them to strike first against O’Connor, the defending state champion.
