Sony has made a $250 million investment to acquire a minority stake in EpicGames, the developer of Fortnite.

While the companies didn't reveal specific plans on how they will collaborate, Epic's Unreal real-time gaming engine is growing in use in Hollywood's animation, VFX and production communities. Sony Innovation Studios in Los Angeles has been developing virtual production capabilities, which were prominently featured last January in the company's CES exhibition area. Unreal has enabled numerous virtual productions, such as Jon Favreau's.
