Padres down to two stars in starting lineup, as back tightness keeps Juan Soto out; Manny Machado could return in the next few days
They played all but one at-bat without one of their core players for a second straight game, as Juan Soto was scratched from Sunday’s lineup minutes before first pitch with back tightness.
“We’ll see where we go once we get to Miami,” Melvin said. “He’s progressing. We’ll see if Miami is an option. Maybe more so home when we get there . But these types of things, he could turn a corner one day and be available. We just haven’t gotten to that point yet.” He said he has asked to get another cortisone shot but that the medical staff has recommended he wait since he had one in late March. It is generally considered risky to have the shot more than three times a year.
