A Watford area pool has featured on TV this week after BBC filming in March.
South Oxhey Leisure Centre welcomed all stroke survivors from Watford and Three Rivers to its Swimming After a Stroke sessions, which help them regain independence., broadcaster Jennie Gow, who herself suffered a stroke in December 2022, visited the pool to see the benefits of water therapy.The presenter described the atmosphere and camaraderie at the class as “emotional” and “amazing”.
She also spoke with the instructor that set it up, Hayley Pittam, about how the classes work and their benefits. The 86-year-old said: “Swimming After a Stroke has given me so much more independence to do everyday things, and I’m now able to do more than I ever could four years ago. "I can also now swim 20 widths of the pool at a time, allowing myself a brief rest at each side, and close to 30 on a good day.
