The 46-year-old has been named as the new Southport manager after Liam Watson's exit
National League North strugglers Southport have confirmed 47-year-old Jim Bentley as their new manager.
Southport sit at the foot of the National League North after six games and have been manager-less since club icon Liam Watson left his position in light of their defeat to Spennymoor, in mid-August. In his third spell at the club, Watson departed his role, moving to focus solely on his role as a director at the Big Help Stadium.
Burgess, who made over 200 appearances for Rushden & Diamonds in his playing career, arrived in the summer as an opposition scout before moving into the role of assistant manager prior to Watson's departure.
