The weather may once again not cooperate Saturday afternoon for the rescheduled launch of a SpaceX rocket with two NASA astronauts on board, forecasters say.
Wednesday's launch of the country's first NASA astronauts in nine years was scrubbed due to bad weather in the area.
"A couple of days ago, we had too much electricity in the atmosphere," NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said. The condition could cause rocket-triggered lightning."But we are going to launch American astronauts on American rockets from American soil, and we will do it with the absolutely priority being the safety of our astronauts."
If Saturday's launch is delayed, 3 p.m. Sunday has been slated for liftoff of the 230-foot-tall rocket. However, scattered storms could again affect the Florida Peninsula on Sunday ahead of a cold front dropping into north Florida, according to the Weather Channel. Teams are also looking at June 2 and 3, as well as June 7 and 8 as backup opportunities, but no final decisions have been made.Contributing: Emre Kelly, Florida Today
