When the world should have its eyes on our football players, the president managed to get the world’s eyes to focus on his “manliness”. ‘The Professional Women’s Soccer League is the symbol of a change. It is recognition of the commitment and sacrifice of so many soccer players, so many clubs and so many people who have spent decades fighting for the role of women in soccer. And for this reason, as an institution, out of conviction, responsibility and respect for sport, we cannot allow this episode to go without consequences.‘Big changes usually come after big crises.
‘The seriousness of what happened, the damage caused and the unanimous worldwide rejection should force decisions to be made. Society has made itself clear. Spain and Spanish football do not deserve a representative of this level, and the institutions must accompany and respond to the feelings of society.
‘It is time to take a step forward. The opposite would be a humiliation for all women and the biggest defeat of Spanish sport and our country.’
