“As much as last year sucked for us having to lose and what not, it just makes it all worth it to get a generational talent like this in our building,” McDermott said. “It’s going to be really fun to be a part of.” “I have definitely been thinking about that a lot, just the added expectation around our team now,” he said. “The last two years have been about rebuilding, and I am sure we will still slowly be building. But we definitely have more expectations now to win games and to put a winning team around this kid. I am just excited for that and to be a veteran presence in the locker room with a young team still.
Forward Doug McDermott is one of the Spurs’ veteran players who have drawn interest ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline.“We all know what he is,” Popovich said of McDermott in April. “He’s a guy that can shoot the 3. He moves really well without the basketball. He knows how to play and he’s a great teammate. He’s been important.”
