Gregg Popovich made no promises about the Spurs' future after they selected Victor Wembanyama No. 1 overall Thursday in the 2023 NBA draft, but he was clearly elated that it now includes a generational talent in the 7-foot-4 French teenager."Anybody would be excited about getting the No. 1 pick in the draft, so I’m very excited," the Spurs coach said. “You don’t want me to jump up and down for you, do you? I’d do a somersault, but I’d be out for three months.

"After we made pick one, we kind of knew where we were targeting in potentially looking to get into other spots," he said."We had some opportunities and we made some calls, but we are happy with the way things turned out tonight."
