Walter 'Bart' Rainey, 84, was one of the victims killed Thursday in a shooting at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Vestavia Hills. Rainey’s neighbor Brian Cocke called Rainey “the nicest gentleman anyone could have met.”
The shooting happened at the church “Boomers Potluck” dinner that started at 5 p.m. Police were called to the church at 6:22 p.m. on reports of an active shooter.
Vestavia Hills police on Friday identified the slain victims as Rainey, of Irondale, and Sarah Yeager, 75, of Pelham.Here is complete coverage of the St. Stephen’s church shooting
