In a new Star Wars one-shot celebrating Return of the Jedi's 40th anniversary, the story behind Jabba's last protocol droid will finally be revealed.

A new Star Wars comic is finally answering a disturbing mystery that was introduced at the beginning of Return of the Jedi. Jabba's Palace is one of the most well-known sequences in the original trilogy because of how well it placed the heroes in uncharted territory. The rules for Jabba the Hutt's domain are so bizarre that the Palace feels more alien than any planet in the Star Wars universe.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT As revealed in a press release shared by StarWars.com, Star Wars: Jabba's Palace #1 by Marc Guggenheim and Alessandro Miracolo will detail the life of Eightyem, a protocol droid that was employed by Jabba until he was "disintegrated." There was never an answer regarding what Eightyem did that made Jabba destroy him in the original film. Instead, it served more as an example of just how scary Jabba could be.

Eightyem's Hidden Story Will Be Told 7 Images Close Based on this preview for the upcoming comic, it looks like Eightyem was involved in a plot to betray Jabba the Hutt. The pages showcase a new subject coming before Jabba named Silvan Kaan. He offers Eightyem a chance at freedom in exchange for three favors.

Eightyem Will Pay the Price for Betraying Jabba the Hutt Though fans will finally see Eightyem's crimes, the story is fated to play out as a tragedy. Since it's been established that Eightyem isn't the mastermind behind this plot, his death will become even more sad, since he's ultimately being used by Kaan. He mentions upon Kaan's arrival that "words were his weapons. His tongue was as formidable as any blaster.

Star Wars' extended media universe is famous for answering the movies' dangling questions, and Star Wars: Jabba's Palace #1 promises the heartbreaking context behind Eightyem's fate. This story is expected to be the first of many tales to celebrate the film's 40th anniversary, with a return of the Ewoks not far behind.
