NASHVILLE — Miro Heiskanen has not played a regular-season game on his natural left side since before the coronavirus pandemic. That will change Thursday...
and his staff are expected to experiment with in the early going of the season.
Last season, Heiskanen began playing with Esa Lindell, but finished the season alongside Ryan Suter. Both Lindell and Suter are left-handed, which forced Heiskanen to play his off side. “Putting one guy on their off side on defense, especially a guy like Miro, usually you’ve got to have special skills to handle that,” DeBoer said. “But when you start moving multiple guys around on to their off hands on defense, for me, it really affects your breakout, your transition, everything like that. We want to avoid that if we can.”
Miller has experience playing with a skilled young defenseman, having done in Buffalo with Rasmus Dahlin. During Miller’s three years with the Sabres, he played with Dahlin more than any other player, spending 668:30 of ice time with former No. 1 overall pick.
