State pensioners are set to receive a huge cash boost next year despite the Winter Fuel Payment being axed
Despite cuts to the Winter Fuel Allowance, state pensioners are set to receive a £400 Triple Lock increase. Last month, Labour Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced that the Winter Fuel Allowance would be means-tested, meaning state pensioners will not automatically receive the £300 Winter Fuel Payments this winter unless they claim a 'qualifying benefit' like Pension Credit.
According to the Treasury's internal working calculations, reportedly seen by the BBC, the pension could see a boost due to April's triple lock. Changes would bring the full state pension to around £12,000 in 2025/26, following the £900 increase in 2023.Pre-2016 retirees who may be eligible for the secondary state pension could see a £300 per year increase.
