New Jersey State Police arrested eight people and foiled a human trafficking ring that forced victims into prostitution after being smuggled into the United States with the promise of legal jobs, authorities said Thursday. As part of the four-month investigation, investigators located multiple victims while serving search warrants at New Jersey homes, according to police. Alleged ringleader Paulino Macolas-Aguirre, 43, of Trenton, was arrested on charges including human trafficking, sexual assault, money laundering and promoting child prostitution.

“This investigation shows our dedication to use every resource at our disposal to bring these criminals to justice and dismantle operations that create life-long damage to victims,” said Col. Patrick Callahan, superintendent of the state police. Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
