State Department inspector general gives Congress alleged conspiracy file on Ukraine
-- The State Department’s inspector general briefed lawmakers and shared a packet of material allegedly containing notes from interviews that took place at Rudy Giuliani’s New York office involving debunked conspiracies related to Ukraine, according to a Democrat familiar with the meeting.
Raskin, who was in the briefing, said “the inspector general has no idea where it came from.” Linick obtained the material in May and it was then referred to the FBI, he added. Wednesday’s briefing put Linick, who served in both the George W. Bush and Obama administrations, at the center of another contentious dispute between the executive and legislative branches. In 2015, he admonished Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for sending emails through her private server that should have been marked classified.
“What we object to was the demands that were put that deeply violate fundamental principles of separation of powers,” Pompeo said Wednesday while on a visit to Italy. “They contacted State Department employees directly. They told them not to contact legal counsel at the State Department. At least, that’s been reported to us.”
