It was made easier, he said, by the generations of NBA figures reaching out to share how they felt about his father, a 16-year NBA veteran who worked as an NBA head coach or assistant for 23 years, since word spread that he died at 79. Many of the stories have been about his father’s legendary toughness as a player and coach. But of all the ways Silas has followed in his father’s footsteps, Silas said the conversations and messages he has received have inspired him again to leave the legacy fitting for his father’s son.
“He’s been in it for a long time. He knows what he’s doing. He’s handled a lot of adversity here. He has them playing on both ends of the floor.”
