Kevon Looney is the only Warriors player in the last five decades to record multiple playoff games with 10-plus offensive rebounds.
So after the Warriors series-clinching win on Sunday, the Warriors coach gave an unprompted shoutout to Golden State’s fierce iron man.
Everyone will remember Game 7 of the Warriors’ first-round series against the Sacramento Kings for Stephen Curry’s 50-point masterpiece. But Looney deserves an award for best supporting actor in the 120-100 win that punched the Warriors’ ticket to the Western Conference semifinals. Looney pulled down seven of his 10 offensive rebounds in the first seven-plus minutes he played out of halftime. In one sequence, near the 5:40 mark of the third, Looney grabbed back-to-back rebounds near the Warriors’ basket before laying the ball in to give his team a nine-point advantage.
Looney finished with 21 rebounds and 11 points on an efficient 4-for-5 shooting. Sunday marked his fifth straight game with 10-or-more rebounds, extending his playoff career-long streak.
