has unveiled a new virtual exhibition that captures the spirit of Britain’s lockdown, earning praise fromIn a letter congratulating the successful entrants, the queen wrote that she and the duchess “were inspired to see how the photographs have captured the resilience of the British people at such a challenging time, whether that is through celebrating frontline workers, recognizing community spirit, or showing the efforts of individuals supporting those in need.
Kate, who came up with the idea to stage an exhibition of pictures taken by the public during the lockdown earlier this year, sent a selection of some of the final 100 images to the queen at Balmoral last month. Among the pictures Kate sent to the queen was a moving image of a little girl doing her homeschooling with a cutout of her grandmother beside her, captioned, “Never without her,” and another of a mother embracing her child.
Described as a community project, the exhibition is focused on three core themes: Helpers and Heroes, Your New Normal, and Acts of Kindness. Each image captures moments of humor and grief, creativity and kindness, tragedy and hope. The exhibition has been curated by the National Portrait Gallery of which Kate is patron and features a short list of 100 images chosen from more than 31,000 submissions.
