Hurricane Ernesto is set to deliver three months' worth of rain in a single day
The UK is set to be lashed by a torrent of rain and strong winds today as an incoming storm threatens to cause major disruption.
Ernesto ripped through the North Atlantic this week, with maximum winds of 85mph leaving hundreds of thousands of people in Puerto Rico and Bermuda without power. as it makes landfall in the UK, forecasters warn up to 150mm is expected to fall within a 24-hour period in the worst-affected areas.WXCharts latest projections show a vast stretch of rain on Monday, extending from Scotland's northernmost point down to Plymouth in the South West.
For many parts of the country, the weather looks set to be miserable throughout the week with another yellow rain warning in place for Wednesday and Thursday for parts of western Scotland as the conditions deteriorate rapidly. Some places could see a whopping 75-100 mm and perhaps up to 150 mm on some western-facing slopes alongside strong gets of up to 50-60mph.
