The Met Office has named the latest storm set to affect the UK, Storm Éowyn, bringing strong winds and potential disruption across Northern Ireland and other parts of the country.

The Met Office has confirmed the name of the latest storm expected to cause disruption across Northern Ireland . Storm Éowyn will bring strong winds across the UK on Friday and into Saturday, according to the Met Office. Storm Éowyn marks the fifth named storm of the season and the first of 2025. The last named storm, Storm Darragh, impacted the UK on December 6th and prompted a rare red weather warning.

Prior to Storm Éowyn reaching the UK, a yellow weather warning for strong winds has been issued for Northern Ireland. A spokesperson for the Met Office stated: 'Storm Éowyn has been named and is forecast to bring strong winds to much of the UK on Friday and into Saturday. A deep area of low pressure will bring very strong winds and some disruption.' The forecaster anticipates that the winds, generated by low pressure, will lead to disruption such as damage to buildings, power outages, and flying debris, which could pose a threat to lives. It is also expected to disrupt travel, with roads, rail, airports, and ferries likely to be affected.
